9th Surgical Days on Infant and Child Epilepsy

Drug-resistant focal epilepsy: impact of surgery on development

Friday 11 June 2021 – At the Fondation A. De Rothschild in Paris and virtually

EPIFOR is a scientific meeting dedicated to surgery for epilepsy in infants and children, with the aim of increasing the knowledge of the medical and paramedical teams involved in the care of these patients. Created in 2013, it is held annually and brings together clinicians and researchers. This year’s theme is ‘The impact of surgery on development’. After an introduction devoted to the impact of drug-resistant epilepsy on the child’s brain, we will look at what happens to memory after temporal surgery and present the work undertaken by the LFCE on French recommendations for neuropsychological assessment in the surgical context. We will then discuss the development of awake surgery in children. Prof Madison BERL and Prof Mary Lou SMITH will respectively describe current knowledge on cognitive outcome and on quality of life and educational outcome after surgery.

Lastly, 3 40-minute clinical workshops will round off the day, providing an opportunity for a wide range of educational and more individualised exchanges. Registration is free and can be done at the following link: https://epi-for.org/inscription/
